BARRANDOV'S COSTUMES AND PROPS DEPARTMENT ENJOYS SUCCESS

PRAGUE, June 1, 2007

“The Tudors”, a narrative historical television series describing the life of what might be England’s most famous ruling dynasty, is garbed in Czech costumes. It just so happens that the Irish producers selected eighty complete, elaborate Renaissance Period costumes from the Barrandov Studios Costumes and Props Department for their project.

The first in the series about the royal Tudor family enjoyed great success with television viewers last year and also earned the respect of critics. The Barrandov Studios Costume Rental Division also participated in providing the costumes for that particular episode, for which the creators even received several prestigious prizes. Now, the Irish filmmakers have returned to the Barrandov Costumes and Props Department – their positive experiences from previous cooperation with the Czech costumiers paid off.

“That was the first time we delivered costumes to the British Isles. What is special about this second order though, is the fact that the Irish costume division selected the historical attire using only electronic communications. After their good experiences from last time, they entrusted the completion of individual details to our costume makers,” said Jiri Matejka, Director of the Costumes and Props Department. The department then delivered this extensive “Tudor” order of eighty renaissance period costumes directly to the film studios in Dublin. “This type of confidence truly makes us happy,” added Matejka.

According to him, the enormous collection of elaborate historical costumes – all of top quality – have earned Prague’s Barrandov Studios a good reputation not only throughout all of Europe, but overseas as well. Other films for which the Costumes and Props Department has attired the actors during the past several years include “Omen 666” and “La Mome – Edit Piaf”, or “Eragon”, and “Prince Caspian”, which were shot in the Czech Republic. As the most northern of all of Europe’s costume rental locations, Barrandov’s Costumes and Props Department has started to be used more and more by Scandinavian productions during the recent past. Barrandov’s Costume Division “clothed” the narrative historical film “Arn”, which is set during the Crusades and is a Swedish production.
