Sets for "GI Joe" Under Construction
SETS FOR COMICS FILM "GI JOE" HAVE STARTED BEING BUILT AT BARRANDOV
The process of constructing sets for the action film “GI JOE” has been started off successfully. Barrandov Studios has just signed a contract for shooting the Hollywood megafilm. The screenplay for the picture, which is being directed by the famous Stephen Sommers, is based on a classic comic book series. Shooting is scheduled to start this May. The film, with a total budget of 170 million dollars, will see its premiere next year.
“The movie version of ‘GI JOE’, produced by Stillking Films, is set in Europe where a special unit made up of international professionals and known under the name of G.I.J.O.E. is battling against a dangerous organization led by a well-known arms dealer,” describes Ing. Vladimir Kuba, Barrandov Studios General Director. He adds that the film’s cast includes Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller. Shooting itself should kick off this May. “The crew will be filming on stages eight and nine and will also take advantage of the backlot for set construction,” according to Vladimir Kuba.
Work on other films is also currently underway at Barrandov. The American film “Solomon Kane” has been shooting since the end of last year and is based on a film story by Robert E. Howard. The cast includes James Purefoy, Max von Sydow, Mackenzie Crook, Rachel Hurd-Wood, and others. Marek Vasut represents the Czech acting community in the film.
Barrandov Studios has abundant experience with shooting other megafilms. The list of productions that were made at Barrandov last year include the famous sci-fi flick “Babylon A.D.”, which stars popular Hollywood actor Vin Diesel in the lead role; and “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”, which is the second of the well-known adventure film series. Two years ago, Barrandov was the shooting location for the twenty-first in the series about the adventures of Agent 007, otherwise known as James Bond, which was titled “Casino Royale”.
