Wes Anderson Completes Film at Barrandov

DIRECTOR WES ANDERSON AT BARRANDOV TO COMPLETE HIS NEWEST FILM “THE DARJEELING LIMITED”

World-renowned American director Wes Anderson had been at Barrandov the past few days finishing up his latest film – “The Darjeeling Limited”. This adventure movie about three brothers traveling in India was shot outside of Europe this year, but Wes Anderson verified the final version of the film at the modernized screening room operated by the Barrandov Studios Film Laboratories Division. The well-known director is working out of Prague at the moment, where he will be shooting several commercials over the next few days. This is only one of the reasons why he chose Barrandov as the site for verifying the final version of his new film. Viewers will be able to see “The Darjeeling Limited” at the International Film Festival in Venice, which will start on Wednesday, August 29.

“In mid-August we were contacted by the production company’s representative saying that they need to view the combined aligning copy of the film and require a high quality screening room – from the perspectives of both video and audio,” according to Ales Bosticka, Director of the Film Laboratories Division. He added that the company selected Barrandov’s laboratories based on a recommendation from American filmmakers who were shooting in Prague this year. “The copy of the film that arrived from Hollywood was viewed by a twenty-member team, which, in addition to director Anderson, included some of the film’s actors, representatives from the advertising agency, and Roman Coppola, who is the film’s producer,” Bosticka went on to say.

Barrandov Studios opened its modernized screening room at the end of this March. Thanks to its furnishings and technology, it is one of the best in the Czech Republic. The total investment made by the Film Laboratories Division for the modernization and modifications of the screening room amounted to almost eight million Czech crowns. “We are the only ones in the Czech Republic who are able to objectively control the quality of both image and sound. This screening room provides true sample referential projection in the Czech Republic, as it allows for color and image density to be evaluated, including synchronization and sound quality. It is equipped with leading-edge world technology and, with its representative areas, corresponds to the requirements for controlling film quality that the world has at the start of the twenty-first century,” specifies Ales Bosticka.

“The Darjeeling Limited” is another of Anderson’s classic family dramas set in a not quite standard setting. The picture’s heroes are three brothers who, after the death of their father, set out on a very unusual journey. Together with their mother, they set out by train to India in search of the fabled white leopard, which, according to all, should be the new physical embodiment of their father’s soul. The lead roles are portrayed by Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, Anjelica Huston, and Natalie Portman.

Wes Anderson (born in 1969 in Houston, Texas) has been interested in film since childhood. He started shooting films as a young boy and also directed his school’s theatrical performances. Some of the films he directed include “Bottle Rocket”, “Rushmore”, and “The Royal Tenenbaums”, which was nominated for an Oscar.

Barrandov Studios Film Laboratories offer a wide range of services to their customers – ranging from developing and processing black and white dailies in 16 and 35 millimeter formats; through film transfers to different formats and on different media, optical and copy effects, and editing negatives; up through the production of distribution copies. Additional activities tie onto these services, such as creating subtitles using laser technology and ensuring logistics services for film distributors, to name only a few. The laboratories also offer the regeneration of archival footage and damaged films.
