BARRANDOV STUDIOS

The number of both foreign as well as Czech films shot at Barrandov last year was the highest since 1989. The volume of commercial shoots increased significantly as well. Both of these facts were reflected in Barrandov Studios’ financial results for 2006. After-tax profits reached a level of CZK 43.8 million – almost one-third more than the previous year’s amount of 33.9 million.

Operational results for last year attained a record level of 65.2 million, which reflects an annual increase of CZK 11.5 million. Income from the sale of products and services show an annual increase of CZK 4.3 million when compared to last year’s total of 497.6 million. The company, which has 330 employees, made investments valuing a total of CZK 281 million last year. The new MAX soundstage complex came in at approximately CZK 200 million.

“After more than sixty years, a new soundstage was built. It just happens to be the largest soundproof stage in all of Europe and can be subdivided into three separate stages. This construction has made Barrandov a site where even the most demanding Hollywood projects can be completed,” according to Tomas Chrenek, Chairman of the Barrandov Studios Supervisory Board.

Chrenek places high hopes in the full-format digital broadcasting license that was granted to TV Barrandov last year. “Although the license was revoked over the course of the year, it is most likely that this will only result in a delay. Barrandov would then become a ‘media park’ – a location where an entire chain of components from the film and television industry is concentrated in one place.”
