Restoration and Preservation of Archive Film

Restoration FilmOver the course of time, film negatives and prints start to age and gradually deteriorate.  In order to preserve priceless film archival treasures, they must eventually be copied to different, newer film stock.  In some cases, the original negative requires chemical restoration beforehand to ensure that the new copy is exhibition-quality.

For very old pictures, it’s often necessary to perform color corrections or to repair films by taping or splicing certain sections prior to making the copy.  As archive materials are often fragile, they cannot be copied on standard, high-speed equipment.  Instead, our film laboratories use low-speed, step-by-step copiers which are specially designed to handle the film much more delicately.  If the condition of the film allows, we also use a special process developed by our experts to remove scratches, whether they are in the emulsion or the film base.
Among our many satisfied clients is the National Film Archives, for whom we prepare the period-film weeklies that are broadcast on Czech TV every Thursday.
