Oscar-Winning Director at Barrandov
OSCAR-WINNING DIRECTOR RUZOWITZKY SHOOTS AT BARRANDOV
Director Stefan Ruzowitzky, the fresh recipient of an Oscar, has recently finished shooting at Barrandov. Ruzowitzky flew to Prague to start shooting the film trailer for “Love at War” immediately after the Academy Awards ceremony, where he received a prize for his film “Die Fälscher” ("The Counterfeiters").
Director Stefan Ruzowitzky brought his newly-acquired statuette along to Barrandov, where he had started working in cooperation with the FFP Agency and Barrandov Productions in February. The latter company ensured the executive production of the “Love at War” film trailer, which will be screened at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival. “Working with Stefan Ruzowitzky was very interesting and pleasant. He is a very sharp and perceptive director. The picture includes numerous battle scenes set during the time of the Roman Wars and, in spite of the fact that this was an entirely new film theme for Stefan, he was prepared perfectly and in depth. Working with him was a great joy,” according to Daniel Jaroš, Director of Barrandov Productions.
Stefan Ruzowitzky won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for his 2007 picture “Die Fälscher” ("The Counterfeiters"). The film tells the story of Operation Bernhard, which was the largest counterfeiting operation of all time. At the close of the war, the Nazi leaders issued an order that resulted in the printing and counterfeiting elite being gathered at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Their task was to produce copies of British and American currency that were as authentic as possible. The cast includes August Diehl, David Striesow and Karl Markovics, who the majority of Czech viewers know from the television series “Kommissar Rex”.
