First year of MAX Stage
EUROPE'S LARGEST SOUNDSTAGE NOW BEING USED BY PRODUCERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
The largest film soundstage in Europe is celebrating its first birthday. The MAX soundstage complex, consisting of three soundproof stages, was opened mid-December last year and has been permanently occupied by filmmakers ever since. The services offered by the stages, which were built at a cost exceeding 200 million Czech crowns, have already been used by a number of foreign and Czech production companies. The films shot at Barrandov’s new soundstage complex this year include “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” and “Babylon A.D.”. MAX has also been the birth site of dozens of commercials, including ads for Mazda, the automobile manufacturer, and the Pantene cosmetics company.
“The first year of operations has confirmed, in quite an unambiguous manner, that the decision to build the MAX soundstage complex was the right choice to make. Thanks to it, we have significantly increased the position of Barrandov Studios on the international market,” says Ing. Vladimir Kuba, Barrandov Studios General Director, during his evaluation of the year’s activities. He goes on to add that the soundstages’ equipment and supporting facilities will satisfy even the most demanding shooting requirements.
Construction of the complex of three soundproof soundstages, which lasted a total of seven months, is the most extensive investment the Czech film industry has made over the past sixty years. “We are fully aware of the increasing competition in surrounding countries and thus, for the future, we want to continue focusing on the development and quality of the services we offer our film, television, and advertising customers,” according to Vladimir Kuba.
The MAX soundstage complex consists of two stages measuring one thousand square meters each and a third – the largest – spreading out over two thousand square meters. All three soundproof stages can be interconnected to create one large stage up to 98.5 meters in length, almost 4,000 square meters in area, and 13.75 meters in height.
