Negative Cutting

Negative cuttingNegative cutting (sometimes called “negative matching”) is a crucial step in the process of making release prints from negatives.  The exact location of each frame of film on the original negative can be determined by using the KEY CODE (also referred to as the “edge number”).

Our labs handle negative cutting from both 35mm and 16mm negatives, and also syncs audio track to image.

Despite today’s digital world in which it is increasingly common for the final film cut to be “burned” from a computer, a negative cut continues to the professional standard.

In the case of some post-production processes, it can significantly decrease expenses (ie. in situations where there is a large quantity of recorded material in comparison with the final footage – common with commercials).
